Our 2019 Los Santos selection has arrived! We’ve been purchasing this coffee now for three years from our friends at Beneficio Bella Vista in Antigua, Guatemala. Los Santos is a collection of smallholder farmers from a region North West of Antigua - San José Poaquil, Chimaltenango. The population here is predominantly indigenous people of Maya descent, Kaqchikel to be exact, and they only began producing coffee 20 years ago. This is a unique scenario in which Bella Vista has made an arrangement with two specific coyotes (middle-men buyers) in the area. Traditionally, a coyote would buy any level of quality from anyone at very low prices; however, these buyers only purchase ripe red cherries and only from the same villages each year. We’re always excited for this release because we feel it just perfectly represents the classic flavors most often associated with Guatemalan coffees - red fruits, apple, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, brown spice.
As of October 6th, 2019, Los Santos has replaced the Guatemala component, previously Lucita Linda, in both Savio and bell’s. Flavor profiles and parameters for each blend should be nearly identical!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions!
