One 12 oz. compostable Biotre bag.
This beautiful Ethiopian offering comes to us via a connection made with Yisehak Awel of Lean Coffee. Working with his brother’s exporting company, Adulina, he has started bringing a handful of exciting lots into the United States. This will be our final offering from the 2017 harvest before we transition into newly arriving crop from this year. Gelena Abaya represents a very small subregion with Ethiopia, nestled between Lake Abaya on the West and the town of Yirgacheffe on the East. Hundreds of families deliver there cherries here to one of five different wet mills for processing. The coffee is dried on raised beds which are covered during the hottest part of the day to control drying speed. Lots of compost is used in this area to build soil quality for the coffee trees, which we love to see. Good soil equals good coffee. Speaking of good coffee, Gelena Abaya is tasting as juicy and elegant as ever. The mouthfeel is distinctly silky, like honey, and the acidity is bright and fruity. We’re loving the complexity (read: there are a lot of different really enjoyable flavors going on here) of this coffee as well, so have fun with it! We taste: rose, rosé wine, honey, hibiscus, apricot, cinnamon, and black tea. Woop!
